Police say on Tuesday January 20th 2015 at approximately 11:30pm, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service attended a gas station located on Glendale Avenue, in the city of St. Catharines in response to a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, police learned that a female entered the business dressed in dark clothing and armed with a knife. The female left the area with a quantity of money and cigarettes prior to police attending.
During the course of this investigation, police learned that a vehicle was stolen from a nearby residence sometime prior to the first robbery and a male was assisting the female suspect.
On Wednesday January 21st 2015 at approximately 5:35am, according to police the couple attended another gas station located on Schmon Parkway in the city of Thorold in the stolen vehicle. The female entered the business dressed in dark clothing and armed with a knife. She left the area with the male in the stolen vehicle with a quantity of money and cigarettes.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the same couple attended a variety store located on East Main Street, in the city of Welland in the stolen vehicle. The female again entered the store dressed in black clothing and armed with a knife. She left the area with the male in the stolen vehicle with a quantity of money and cigarettes.
Approximately 15 minutes later, the same couple attended a gas station located on Highway 20 in the city of Thorold in the stolen vehicle. The female again entered the business dressed in black clothing and armed with a knife. This time she left the area with the male in the stolen vehicle with only a quantity a money.
Uniform officers and Detectives from both Welland and St. Catharines with assistance from the 1 District Street Crime Unit conducted a joint investigation and the two suspects were identified.
As a result, 30 year old Jennifer Peacock and 32 year old Matthew Spina were arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle over $5000.00, and four counts of Robbery. Peacock was also charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
It should be noted, no victims sustained injuries during these robberies and both St. Catharines residents were held pending a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday January 22nd 2015.
