On Friday October 24th, 2014 members of the Niagara Regional Police Casino Patrol Unit along with detectives from 2 District commenced an investigation into Human Trafficking related offences.
According to police, as a result of this investigation, a twenty-four year old Scarborough, Ontario male was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:
- Trafficking in Persons under the age of eighteen: Section 279.011(1) Criminal Code of Canada
- Procuring a persons under the age of eighteen in juvenile prostitution: Section 212(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada
- Assault with a Weapon x 2: Section 267 Criminal Code of Canada
- Assault: Section 266 Criminal of Canada
Jules MEAWASIGE was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The sixteen year old female victim was assisted by social services agencies and returned to her home municipality.
