At 7:02 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2014 the Fort Erie Fire Department, along with police and EMS, responded to reports of a fire at Pike Dry Cleaning at 93 Jarvis Street in Fort Erie.
Police say emergency responders arrived to find the two-story, wooden structure fully engulfed in flames. Multiple Fort Erie fire stations responded to fight the blaze, which gutted the dry cleaning business, and damaged the two adjoining business spaces, including the Subculture sandwich shop. Heavy smoke and the presence of fire fighting apparatus necessitated the closure of Central Avenue, Jarvis Street, and Courtwright Street for several hours.
The buildings were not occupied at the time of the blaze, and there are no reports of injuries. Early damage estimates are in excess of $500,000.
The scene is being held pending investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Niagara Regional Police Service.
