Life at the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society is busy.  I hope you are planning to attend Gala 2019 on November 2.

We are having it at the beautiful Greg Frewin Theatre this year. This year has a medieval theme, so plan to dress up, feast, play and be entertained! It is going to be a great night, and is a very important fundraiser for us.

Early bird tickets are available until Oct. 4. All tickets purchased before Oct. 4 will be entered into an early bird draw!

Pictured above is sweet Hester in the arms of RVT Nikki. Hester is at the Niagara Falls location. She had been at Petsmart in the adoption room for awhile, but it was too overwhelming for her. Hester is a very quiet little lady. She likes to find secluded hiding places and have long naps. The first thing she did when Nikki picked her up was to curl into a ball for a good cuddle, hiding her pretty face. Hester is approximately 3 years old and has been with us for several months. For a shy girl like her, the shelter can be a stressful place. We would like to see her find a forever friend as soon as possible. She would be an ideal pet for a quiet home.

We also still have sweet sisters Bella and Hope with us. These are big beautiful German Shepherd ladies who were initially rescued in Florida. They love being together and depend on one another. They know some commands, and play independently. They love to go for leisurely walks, and are friendly, easygoing gals. They’ve been with us for some time, so they’re more than ready to find their forever home. An adult home may be best, but only because they haven’t had experience with children. Have you ever seen what a litter of kittens or a bored dog can do to a blanket? We’re looking to replace our existing washer and dryer at the Welland shelter with industrial grade equipment to handle the relentless barrage of laundry. Would you like to help? Donate to “Operation Spin Cycle”, there is a Canada Helps link on the website.
September 29, we will be hosting Bow Wow and Chow, an outdoor family event held at the Greg Frewin Theatre. We will be doing pet adoptions, and there will be music, vendors, kids’ activities, food and more. We hope to see you there.

Don’t forget the city’s Bark Park is now open at the Niagara Falls shelter. There are separate enclosures for large and small dogs with grass and benches and lots of room to play. Just remember to keep your dog on leash until you get into the park, our parking lot can be busy and we want you and your pup to stay safe.
Contact me if you would like to get involved in helping the animals, or if you have any questions. I’m here to help!
