Postal workers will be in a legal strike position on this upcoming Wednesday, Sept. 26th.
The City of St. Catharines says it suggests residents avoid sending the City time-sensitive information and payments by mail until after the possibility of a postal disruption has passed.
Correspondence
During a postal disruption, the City will deliver public notices and time-sensitive correspondence required by legislation by hand or by courier. Residents who are expecting correspondence from the City that is not time-sensitive can look forward to receiving it after any possible postal disruption has passed.
Time-sensitive information can be delivered to the City in person to Citizens First at City Hall (50 Church St.) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or sealed in an envelope and dropped into the mail slot at the James Street entrance after hours.
2018 Municipal Election
To avoid a potential postal disruption, Voter Information Cards for the upcoming municipal election on Monday, Oct. 22 were mailed out. Residents who don’t receive their Voter Information Card or need to update their information can do so in person at City Hall (50 Church St.) or by calling 905.688.5601 ext. 1517 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Residents who don’t receive their Voter Information Cards can still vote in the election but they must have valid identification with their current address to receive their ballot. Learn more about voting in the Oct. 22 municipal election here: www.stcatharines.ca/Election .
Payments
The final property tax payment of 2018 is due Friday, Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Everyone is required to make their payments to the City on-time, including property tax payments, water / wastewater bill payments and parking ticket payments, even if they have not received notice by post. Final property tax bills were mailed in June. Arrangements have been made to ensure water / wastewater bills are delivered ahead of a possible postal disruption.
Anyone who hasn’t received notice for payment from the City should call Citizens First at 905.688.5600.
Residents should avoid sending payments to the City through the mail until after the possibility of a postal disruption has passed. Payments can be made in person with cash, cheque or debit card at City Hall (50 Church St.) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cheques can be sealed in an envelope and dropped in the mail slot after hours at the James Street entrance. Do not deposit cash in the mail slot.
Property tax payments can be made at most financial institutions. Residents can also sign-up for pre-authorized payments for property taxes and water / wastewater bill payments by visiting www.stcatharines.ca/pap
Parking tickets can also be paid online at www.stcatharines.ca/parkingtickets
