Yesterday the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a welfare check to an address in Thorold in the area of Pine Street North and Townline Road West after it was reported that a female living there was being locked in a room against her own will by the caregivers.
A short time later, officers entered the residence and located the female in a room at the rear of the house. The female was found in a state of unacceptable care and in an abandoned state. She was taken to a near by hospital where she was provided medical attention. The female victim is expected to make a full recovery.
A male and female caregiver were arrested.
As a result Guenther Froese (87 years old) and Ruth Froese (70 years old) both of Thorold have been charged with the alleged offence of:
– Necessaries of Life: Failing to Provide to Person Under Charge.
Guenther Froese and Ruth Froese are being held pending a bail hearing. The bail hearing will occur on April 12, 2018 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
