The Ontario Government through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is helping bolster an expansion at Silvermith Brewing Co. in Virgil with a $400,000 grant.
The independently owned, craft brewery which started up in 2011, has committed $3,660,800 to purchase new equipment and expand production capacity while hiring an additional 10 people.
Some of the expansion includes more seating capacity for its restaurant by 75 to 125 people, more retail space, additional brewing space, a tasting room and an events space. The expansion is expected to be done by September of 2022.
Chris Pontsioen, Silversmith President and CEO said, “This expansion represents a new and exciting chapter unfolding at Silversmith Brewing Company. The investment announced today will increase our capacity to drive economic growth in our community. We are thankful to the Ontario government, and thrilled that we will continue to serve our customers a wonderful experience and great beer.”

Silversmith Brewing Company is an independent craft beer brewery known for its award-winning Black Lager — a first of its kind in Ontario. The company was founded in 2011, and is located in a tourist hotspot among fruit farms, vineyards and wineries in Niagara.
