Today is the big day sun watcher’s have been waiting for!

Across North American we should get at least a partial eclipse of the sun today with the Niagara Region expected to get a 78 per cent coverage of the sun this afternoon.

Locally if you want to check it out, members of the Royal Astronomical Society Niagara Centre will have their telescopes set up at Joe McCaffery Park on Vansickle Road from 1:00 to 4:00 and the public is invited to come out for the free event.

If you need the special viewing glasses, the RASC says they are available for a small donation to the local chapter.  For more information CLICK HERE.

Another option is The Niagara Parks Commission which will be hosting a solar eclipse viewing event this afternoon between 1:00 and 3:00 at the Niagara Glen Nature Centre.

Also on hand will be guided viewing tours with special protective glasses, as well as crafts for kids.  For more information CLICK HERE.

Victoria, B-C will offer Canada’s best eclipse view with 90 per cent of the sun blocked out starting at 9:08 a.m. local time. The eclipse will end in Saint John, New Brunswick just before before 5 p.m.
