According to police, on Monday March 13, 2017 shortly after 7:30 pm Niagara Regional Police responded to a residence on Lake Street in St. Catharines, to investigate a report of a break and enter during which a firearm was discharged.
Four males entered an apartment and made threatening demands of one of the occupants, in an alleged robbery. One of the males was armed with a firearm, which was discharged injuring a female victim. The males fled prior to police arrival.
The firearm has not been recovered and the four suspects were described as follows:
All four males were dressed in black or dark clothing, wearing hooded sweaters or jackets, with their faces covered. Two of the males were described as being white and the other two as being black.
The victim was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services and transferred to a Niagara Health System hospital. Her injuries were not life threatening.
Investigators do not believe that this event was a random act.
