At approximately 8:30 PM on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016, Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Welland Fire Department and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Wellington Street and Tanguay Avenue in the City of Welland, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara.
Police say that initial investigation revealed that two females were walking together and crossing at this intersection when they were struck by a 2009 Dodge Caravan being driven by a 62-year-old male resident of Pelham.
One of the females was a 71-year-old resident of Welland and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The second female is a 59-year-old resident of Welland, she suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The 62-year-old male driver of the Dodge did not suffer any injuries in this collision.
This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
