On Friday October 28, 2016 at approximately 2:28 pm members of the Niagara Regional Police Service say they responded to a robbery that happened at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce located in the Ridley Heights Plaza at 100 Fourth Avenue in the City of St. Catharines.
Investigation revealed that a lone male suspect entered the bank and waited in line, passed a note to the teller and demanded money. Upon receiving a quantity of cash the suspect fled from the bank on foot.
With the assistance from members of the public, the police were able to identify the suspect as 40 year old Jesse McVittie and on Saturday October 29th at approx. 8:00am, uniform officers tracked McVittie to an Ontario Street motel in the city of St. Catharines. With the assistance of additional uniform officers, the 1 District Detective Office, members of the Emergency Tasks Unit (ETU) and a team of Crisis Negotiators, an area of the motel was secured in the interest of public and police safety.
At approximately 12:20pm, Jesse McVittie was arrested without incident at the motel for the offence of Robbery. The matter is still under investigation by the 1 District Detective Office, however police do not believe any other suspects are involved. Investigators would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.
