Police say, on April 26th, 2016, members of the Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E) Unit, with the assistance of the Technological Crimes Unit executed a Search Warrant at a residence located in the City of St Catharines. A number of computer systems and peripheral devices were seized for forensic examination.
As a result of the ongoing Investigation, on August 22, 2016, 68 year old Rymal (Wayne) HAMMOND of St Catharines has been arrested and charged with Possession of Child Pornography contrary to section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada and Lure a child under 18 years of age for the purpose of facilitating the commission of an offence under subsection 163.1 Criminal Code of Canada (Make Child Pornography) contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada.
HAMMOND has been held in custody, pending a bail hearing scheduled for August 22nd, 2016 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse, 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
The Niagara Regional Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the internet and conducts investigations into Internet Child Exploitation Offences in partnership with numerous Ontario Police Services. This investigative initiative has been made possible with financial assistance from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
