Police say, at approximately 4:55 p.m. on Thursday, June 9th, 2016 the Niagara Regional Police Service, along with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the St. Catharines Fire Services responded to reports of collision between a cyclist and a car on Geneva Street at Grote Street in the City of St. Catharines, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.
Initial investigation revealed that a 92-year-old St. Catharines woman was operating her Toyota northbound on Geneva Street. At the same time a 72-year-old St. Catharines man was riding his CCM mountain bike and crossed into the path of the Toyota.
The Toyota came into a ‘T-Bone’ style collision with the cyclist, causing the 72-year-old man to be thrown from his bicycle up onto the vehicle and into the windshield, before coming off the Toyota and landing on the roadway.
The cyclist was transported to the Niagara Health System with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently air-lifted to the Hamilton Health Sciences where he remains in stable condition at this time.
The 92-year-old female was not physically injured in the collision.
This incident remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
