Bad News Brings Us Together…. (Please note all animals in pictures up for adoption NOW at the Niagara Falls Humane Society why not come down and say hello?)
From time to time we all get that call, or text in today’s age. You know that call, the one where you’re having a decent day and things are going a-ok, and then suddenly you get bad news. Sometimes the news is bad, but not that bad, and other times it is, and it takes its toll on us. Sometimes the bad news brings on a negative state of mind that takes a long time to heal from. Other times, we are just having a really bad day and want nothing more than for something to raise your spirits. What I do know is this; if we step out of our comfort zone and open up to someone (I know, it’s pretty scary to put the phone down and have an actual conversation with someone…dare I say face to face?) what we learn is that others can be our rock through tough times. I’ve been that rock and needed a rock in my life at different times. It’s what makes us human beings. To feel. To hurt. To heal. To overcome.
Animals connect with us on a level that I really can’t describe in words. It’s in their eyes, they just know what we feel. I see this at the shelter all of the time. The dogs especially always look right into my eyes and I am convinced that they know exactly how I feel, good or bad. Many believe that the eyes are the window into the soul. I’d like to believe that to be true.
I’ve talked about how that close friend or family member can be that rock. Well guess what? It doesn’t have to be exclusive to other people in our lives. This means that our pets and furry friends can be that rock. In suffering, in sickness and in bad times we connect. We cannot do life alone, and that’s especially evident when the hard times are strong. Struggles bring us together.
This week, I feel that I must highlight the fact that a number of dogs have been at the shelter for a number of weeks. Remember Keko? This group of adorable pups are getting up there in “time served” at the shelter. It’s time for me to start yelling from the treetops that these dogs need to find their Forever Homes, and fast. This week I have taken a number of photos of our dogs behind bars. I want you to see them where they are right now.
Where are you? Many are in the comforts in their home, at the nearby Timmy’s reading this, or on a lunch break, trying to catch up on the local news of the day. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to help us get these dogs home, forever! If you or someone you know is considering adopting a pet, please come by the Shelter before anything else. Don’t go to a big box store and buy a puppy. Often those dogs come from puppy mills, and your money only serves to reinforce that cruel industry. At the Shelter we often see very beautiful pure bred dogs that have been abandoned, surrendered or physically abused. They deserve a loving home just like all of us do. Bad news brings us together.
