Police say, a 30 year old male is in police custody after an adult male was stabbed Thursday evening on Elberta St. in The City of St.Catharines.
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on March 31, 2016 uniform officers were dispatched to the the Facer Street area after a male called 911 to report that he had been stabbed. Niagara EMS also attended the area, providing assistance and transporting the male to hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for life threatening injuries.
An area near where the incident occurred was cordoned off and maintained by police, while a forensic examination of the scene was conducted. That area was subsequently released by police at the conclusion of the examination.
The prompt response and initial investigation by uniform officers resulted in the accused in this matter being located and taken into custody without incident as he was returning to his residence.
The accused and the victim were believed to be known to one another.
Charged with One (1) Count of Aggravated Assault contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada is 30 year old Eric BENSON of St.Catharines.
The matter continues to be investigated by members of the 1 District Criminal Investigations Branch.
