Police say, on Thursday December 17, 2015 at 8:30 am Niagara Regional Police Service responded to the parking lot of 459 Welland Ave in the city of St.Catharines in regard to a suspicious object. Uniform Officers received information that a suspicious object was located near a pay phone booth inside the plaza.
In the interest of public safety, responding Officers blocked off all entrances of the parking lot and requested the assistance of the NRPS Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU).
The Explosive Disposal Unit deployed the EDU robot to examine the object. The EDU robot successfully opened the object and deemed that no danger existed.
Investigating Officers determined that no threat to the community or evidence of a criminal offence occurred. The NRPS opened the parking lot to the public and allowed area stores to resume business.
