There has been a recall on certain refrigerated beverages sold at Walmart and possibly other stores after 9 cases of listeriosis in Ontario were reported with 5 hospitalizations.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall July 8 that affects certain Silk and Great Value brand plant-based refrigerated beverages as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Chief medical officer of health, Dr. Kieran Moore said as of July 8, there were nine confirmed cases of listeriosis reported in Ontario as part of an ongoing investigation that is linked to the recalled products and five hospitalizations linked to the “outbreak investigation.”
Walmart Canada has confirmed on its recall page the products were sold by the retail giant.
“Ontarians are reminded to check their fridges for the recalled products and if any are found, they should be immediately discarded or returned to the location where they were purchased,” Moore said in a statement. “Do not consume any recalled products. Contamination with Listeria does not change the smell, taste or appearance of food.”
If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your health care provider, the CFIA said.
“Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products,” the warning states. “Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.”
