Niagara Regional Police say that detectives are investigating a shooting in Lincoln. on May 20, 2023 at 11:37 pm.
Officers arrived at a house on Central Avenue between John Street and Jackson Street. The initial investigation found that a white Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle (SUV) had driven by the home then came back. A lone male suspect exited the driver’s side of the vehicle at approximately 11:35pm and approached the front of the residence. The male fired approximately eight shots at the house from a handgun. The house and an adjacent parked car were struck by the gunfire. At approximately 11:37pm the white Hyundai proceeded to drive northbound on Central Avenue at a high rate of speed fleeing the area.
The occupants of the home were asleep at the time of the shooting. They were uninjured.
Detectives from the 8 District – Grimsby office of the NRPS have been assigned to the investigation. As a result of the ongoing investigation detectives have reason to believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community stemming from this incident. Detectives continue to develop suspect information. The suspect is described as:
Black male
Skinny build
Approximately 25 years old
Black braided hair
Dark hooded sweatshirt
The Hyundai was later recovered in Hamilton. It had been stolen and driven to Lincoln within an hour of the shooting.
The scene was processed by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or have information to contact them by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009935.
Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area (Central Avenue and John Street) with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 11:00pm and 11:59pm on May 20, 2023.
