Police say a student is in custody after an assault with a weapon at St. Catharines Collegiate High School.
On April 20th, 2023, at 10:54am Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers responded to St. Catharines Collegiate High School, located at 34 Catherine Street, in St. Catharines regarding an assault that just occurred.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim a 15-year-old male student at the school, who was suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim received medical attention by staff members at the school prior to the arrival of Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics who responded and assessed the victim’s injuries before transporting them to an out-of-town trauma centre. The victim has since been released from hospital and continues to recover from his injuries at home.
Investigation has determined the victim was stabbed with a knife by another student at the school. The suspect, who remained on the premise with school staff members was subsequently arrested by responding officers. The involved knife has been recovered.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the Niagara Regional Police Service from releasing identifying information related to the suspect, beyond the fact he is a 15-year-old male from the City of Thorold and is charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing tomorrow (April 21st, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
Detectives assigned to the 1 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation.
