Niagara Regional Police say they have made arrests in relation to a break and enter case along with a discovery of firearms.
On February 3rd, 2023, at 9:54pm Niagara Regional Police Service received a third-party call regarding a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Nicolas Street near Riselay Avenue, in Fort Erie.
Upon arrival, officers located a grey Toyota Prius in the ditch. Neither the driver nor passenger sustained any injuries. As officers were investigating the cause of the collision, a break and enter was reported to have occurred only minutes earlier from a nearby residential address.
Investigation has determined the two occupants in the Toyota Prius committed the break and enter and upon fleeing the scene, lost control of the motor vehicle resulting in it becoming stuck in a nearby ditch. Search incident to arrest officers recovered stolen property from the break and enter. In addition, two unloaded firearms were recovered that did not belong to the homeowners who were subject to the break and enter.
The driver, Adrian Paul Anthony DE BARRONS (35 years) of Port Colborne was arrested and is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
• Break enter and commit – dwelling house
• Possession of a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not licenced
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
• Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle
• Possession of a firearm, weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
• Fail to comply with release order
• Fail to comply with probation order
The passenger, Lyle Steven BILJETINA (30 years) of Fort Erie was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
• Break enter and commit – dwelling house
• Possession of a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not licenced
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
• Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle
