Niagara Regional Police say that a pedestrian struck by a vehicle led to an arrest.

 

On January 6, 2022, at approximately 6:30pm,  officers were called to Drummond Road and Summer Street in Niagara Falls in response to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

Investigation revealed that a 66 year old male was operating a red Ford Focus southbound on Drummond Road. Subsequently, a 78 year old male was walking northbound on the west shoulder of the road when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The vehicle then proceeded to drive off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver then exited his vehicle and ran northbound on Drummond Road.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At approximately 7:05pm, officers were able to locate the driver in the area of Portage Road and North Street, in the City of Niagara Falls where he was placed under arrest.

James Carrier (66 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

Fail to stop at scene of accident causing bodily harm
Operation while prohibited
Impaired operation/conveyance/exceed blood alcohol concentration
Use plate not authorized for vehicle

Carrier was held in custody pending a bail hearing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111, ext. 1002200.
