Police say that on April 10, 2020, at about 1:40 am St. Catharines officers responded to a St. Catharines home for a report of a break and enter in progress.
Officers arrived at the home in the area of Logan Street and Scott Street to learn that a family had been awoken to noise in their house. A member of the family investigated the noise and found a man in the house stealing their belongings.
The male suspect threatened the home owner stating he had a gun. The suspect fled the house. A gun was not seen. None of the five family members were physically injured. A search by officers in the area was not able to locate the suspect.
Within minutes the suspect then attended a convenience store in the area of Geneva Street and Queenston Street and used a debit card that had just been stolen from the home.
On April 12, 2020, further investigation by police led to the identity of the suspect and to a residence on Maple Street near Geneva Street where the suspect was believed to live. The male suspect was located inside and arrested.
Jason Robert Brewster (46 years old) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the alleged offences of Break, Enter, and Robbery and use of Credit Card within Canada.
Brewster’s residence was held pending a search warrant by detectives from the St. Catharines Street Crime Unit. The subsequent search of the residence resulted in the recovery of property linked to the robbery.
Brewster was held in custody for a video bail hearing on April 12, 2020.
