If you love the great outdoors and the sweet sound of music, Firemen’s Park is the place to be today in Niagara Falls.
Day of 1000 Musicians promises to make music history today by having one thousand musicians – from basement to garage to bar circuit to pro gather in one outdoor venue, simultaneously performing six songs, five of which are Canadian (including the Humboldt version of Tom Cochrane’s “Big League”).
Organizers say it could be the largest gathering of Canadian musicians ever. Perhaps even in North America. Inspired by Italy’s “Rockin’ 1000,” this ambitious, not-for-profit Niagara endeavour will also raise money for local charities including the Niagara Conservatory of Music’s Music Gives Movement, Progressive Music Therapy and ProjectShare.

Giant FM’s Pat Porter and author/performer/ex veejay Kim Clarke Champniss share emcee duties throughout the day, and don’t be surprised if you catch sight…or sound…of some very recognizable Canadian musicians throughout the day. Local crooner David McKinty will sing our National Anthem a cappella, and sound for the big event is being handled by Canada’s premiere sound company, Westbury National.
Artistic Director Roger McLaughlin is also offering ½-hour seminars onsite for vocals, drums and guitar, prior to the grand finale.
Organizer Paul Lemire (of VideoSign Inc.), “Talk about a show! I…got word that a family from Winnipeg is going to come and play in the show! We also have (registrants) from Ohio, New York, Barrie, Windsor, Ottawa, Hamilton and surrounding areas. I am totally amazed – it is going to be something to see. You have to come out and play – you have to come out to watch. This is a first in North America. You do not want to miss it! We anticipate large crowds – get here early to claim your spot on the field. Bring a lawn chair – there is limited seating available. This is going to be an amazing ride of a day!”
