At about 4:30 pm yesterday, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Thorold Fire Service and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a motorcycle and automobile crash on Pine Street South at Highway 58 in Thorold.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was being driven southbound on Pine Street South in the center turn lane to proceed onto the Highway 58 on ramp when a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle was being driven southbound on Pine Street South in the north bound lane nearest the curb.

As the 21-year-old female driver from Niagara Falls went to make this turn, she was hit by the Yamaha dirt bike driven by a 44-year-old male from St.Catharines. These two vehicles came into collision within this intersection and the rider was thrown from the dirt bike and suffered life threatening injuries. This rider was taken to a local hospital where he was stabilized and then air lifted to an out of town hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet did not suffer any physical injuries.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
