Niagara Regional Police Service say they responded to a multi-unit residential building in St. Catharines in the area of Merritt Street and Oakdale Avenue in St. Catharines where it was reported that shots were being fired from a firearm in an apartment.from an apartment.
The incident which occurred Thursday night had responding officers evacuate nearby apartments as they attempted to speak with persons in the suspect apartment who refused to exit. As a result, the NRPS Emergency Task Unit, K9 Unit and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.
At approximately 1:05am on March 16, 2018, a male exited the apartment and surrendered to police. A female from the apartment was also arrested. The male and female were both arrested for weapons related offences.
The matter remains under investigation by detectives from the 1 District Criminal Investigations Branch.
