Sometimes the cold and gloomy weather of the season can play havoc with our minds. Keeping positive is something easy to do if you consciously try to do so. Here are some ideas to get you going…
SMILE
It really does help change your mood and relieve stress. It takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown and this is guaranteed to make you feel more positive.
POSITIVE PEOPLE
Hanging out with positive people versus those ones that bring you down makes a difference. It is said that we become the average of the 5 people we hang around most. When it comes to relationships, we are greatly influenced — whether we like it or not — by those closest to us. It affects our way of thinking, our self-esteem, and our decisions.
THINK ABOUT THINGS IN A POSITIVE LIGHT
For example, instead of thinking, “We are going to have a hard time adjusting to our living situation,” think, “We will face some challenges in our living situation, but we will come up with solutions that we will both be happy with.”
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF
Even if our living situation becomes unbearable, there is always a way out. We always have the choice to make change happen, if need be. Don’t be a victim, take charge.
HELP OTHERS
Take the focus away from you and do something nice for another person. This can be as easy as make a call to someone who you know will appreciate it, or even visit. This does not have to be complicated, just mindful of doing something that will brighten someone else’s day (plus you will feel good doing it)!
MOVE ON LOOK AHEAD!
It’s easy to dwell on your mistakes. Instead though… learn from them and move forward. Mistakes are OK if we have a positive takeaway from them.
SING
Granted, not for everyone, but singing is actually a proven activity that gives amazing stress relief….so why not?
FOCUS ON STUFF YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR
Be grateful and appreciate what you already have. This could be your health, relationship, pets, spring is coming…you name it. Sometimes if we shift our minds to thinking about all that is good rather than all that is bad it helps us put things in perspective and get happy.
FILL YOUR MIND WITH POSITIVE STUFF
Whether you read, watch TV, movies, whatever, choose the positive stuff rather than the negative to fill your mind with. You may be surprised how much we consume actually materializes in to what we think and say and become. Consider the famous quote below…
