In January of 2018, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit began an investigation into child pornography related offences.
Police say that the investigation led the investigators to a St. Catharines residence and on February 9th, members assigned to the I.C.E. Unit and the Technological Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the home which resulted in a number of computer systems and storage media being seized and forensically examined.
As a result of the investigation, 24 year old Andrew Donohoe of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Accessing Child Pornography. Donohoe will be held in custody pending a bail hearing which will take place on Saturday, February 10th, at the courthouse in St. Catharines.
The Niagara Regional Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet and conducts investigations into Internet Child Exploitation Offences in partnership with numerous Ontario Police Services. This investigative initiative has been made possible with financial assistance from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
