Niagara Region says that cold weather, staffing and vehicle issues have delayed curbside garbage, recycling and organics collection in areas across Niagara. The collection contractor, Emterra Environmental, was unable to complete all of Friday’s garbage, recycling and organics collection across the region by Sunday, December 31, despite their efforts.
Recycling
You may have noticed the collection contractor was out yesterday January 1, 2018, collecting the remaining recyclable material (Blue and Grey Box) in Grimsby, Lincoln, West Lincoln, Thorold and St. Catharines, making every attempt to finish collecting Friday’s recycling route.
Residents in Niagara Falls whose regular collection day is Friday are being asked to remove their recyclable material from the curb and place it out for collection on Saturday, January 6, 2018. There is no limit to the amount of recycling material that residents can place curbside for collection. If your Blue and Grey boxes are full, residents may use a rigid container or a clear plastic bag to place recyclables at the curb.
Garbage and Organics
Residents in Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Thorold and West Lincoln whose regular collection day is Friday and have not had their garbage and/or organic material collected yet are being asked to remove their remaining material from the curb and place it out for collection on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Residents in the affected areas will be permitted to place three (3) garbage bags or containers curbside for collection on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
There is no limit to the amount of organic material that residents can place curbside for collection. If your Green Bin is full, residents may use a rigid container or yard waste bags to place organics at the curb.
