Police say on Sunday, at about 5:37 am, a man entered the Avondale Food Store located at 191 Welland Avenue in the City of St. Catharines.
The male covered his face with a disguise and armed himself with a knife before approaching the store clerk and demanding money. The male received a small amount of Canadian currency from the store clerk and then quickly fled on foot. (Avondale location pictured below)
Uniform Patrol Officers from Niagara Regional Police Service 1 District quickly responded to the emergency call, investigators from 1 District Criminal Investigation Branch were notified of the incident and continued to investigate.
Just a couple of hours later , Detectives, Uniform Patrol Officers, and a K9 Officer located the male hiding at 86 St. Paul Street and arrested him with his alleged involvement in this Robbery. The knife used in the Robbery along with the stolen Canadian Currency was recovered by the Police.
The male has been identified as 30 year old Andrew Boomer, who does not reside in the Niagara Region. He will be held for a Bail Hearing on Monday, December 18, 2017. He is charged with the following offences;
1. Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2. Disguise with Intent
3. 2 counts of Breach of Probation
