They say it takes a village to raise a child, and in Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL), a new residential community called The Village is taking the adage in a different direction.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, this community nestled in picturesque NOTL, is hosting the second annual dog show to raise funds for the Niagara Falls Humane Society, whose jurisdiction includes both Niagara Falls and NOTL.

Last year’s event raised $11,000, well beyond expectations, and this year, the goal is to do even better.

The NFHS receives no government funds to run the organization, so all incoming monies used to help disenfranchised animals in the area must come from residents and organizations, which is no easy feat in today’s economic climate. However, imaginative residents such as those who reside in The Village, have found a fun, entertaining and lucrative way to help. Not only does everyone get to know each other in the community, but animals in need are helped as well through the time, talents and generous donations of those who attend.

The dog show will be held at The Village Marketplace, off Niagara Stone Road across from Jackson-Triggs Winery from 12:00 – 4:00 pm and will focus on sponsorship requests and gathering silent auction contributions.  Below, lovely Carlos would look good on any dog walk with a loving new owner! Silent auction items include Silent auction items include gourmet dinners hosted by local chefs, golf vouchers, wine, gift certificates from local merchants, dog grooming certificates and much, much more.

The statement says this is a fun dog show with categories such as loveable well behaved, loveable not so well behaved, best trick and human/dog look alike. The dogs will “strut their stuff on the red carpet” in front of the watchful eyes of the judges.

To add to the excitement, entertainment will be provided by Cory Cruise, who received 8 nominations for the 2016 Niagara Music Awards. Lunch is also available starting at 12:30 catered by The Wandering Gourmet and Scratch Bakery food trucks. In addition, a dog portrait photographer will be on hand offering an opportunity to keep those special memories ‘furever’. Below, gorgeous Gumbo is sure to steal any show!!!
