Why do you work out every day? Because you want your body to be fit! It’s healthy for you. It’s the same way with your mind. When you give your mind a daily workout, you grow personally and professionally, you sustain a positive mental outlook, and it helps you expand your boundaries.
As you gain mental strength, you put trust and faith in yourself and in your abilities. You learn to manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set the stage for your success.
Mental Strength is one of the most influential motivators of behavior because that reflects how you view your equality to others. When you reach a stage in your life where you’ve built up proper self-confidence, you see the world differently. The world sees you differently.
And, you certainly don’t react to everyday situations the same as others. Simply, you’re stronger and you fear less.
SIX THINGS YOU DON’T FEAR WHEN YOU ARE MENTALLY STRONG
1. The Success of Others – Co-worker get a promotion? No worries! You celebrate the success of others when you are self-confident. There’s no jealousy. Instead, you recognize that hard work begets success and you know you will succeed in your own right. You’re comfortable without feeling cheated.
Reaching this level of self-confidence is an important stage to your career life-cycle. As you advance on the mental toughness scale, you feel inspired by those successes.
2. The Past, the Present, or the Future – When you are mentally strong, you acknowledge the past but you don’t live there. You let bygones be bygones. You don’t spend time wishing for a different life because you create your future life by your deliberate actions today. That’s the power of the present. Future achievements are planned for and are carried out in the present.
3. Being Alone – In today’s relentlessly connected world, finding privacy has almost become a lost art. Western culture tends to associate a desire for solitude with people who are lonely or those who have antisocial tendencies. However, seeking solitude can be mentally healthy.
There are many psychological and physical benefits to spending time alone. It allows you to relax and then restart your brain. Not having distractions gives you the opportunity to clear your mind, gain clarity, and focus. You can revitalize your mind and body at the same time.
4. New Challenges and Change – With change comes challenges. Mentally strong people don’t avoid change because they know revolutionary ideas are seldom born from the status quo. Instead, they welcome change and believe in their abilities enough to work through the change.
Self-confidence makes it easier to take calculated risks while pushing to new heights. Playing to your strengths is a smart tactic and many people don’t know what they are capable of until they are truly tested.
5. Mistakes – Mistakes are useful in building confidence. The key is to try things you don’t think you can do. Of course, that’s often easier said than done, right? Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. You don’t always get it right on the first go round but you’re strong enough to know that you aren’t going to quit. Failure isn’t a reason to give up, it’s an opportunity to improve.
6. Discomfort – Mentally strong people do not fear a little pain. Wayne Dyer prolifically said, “Have you really lived ten thousand or more days, or have you lived one day ten thousand or more times?”
That’s a stirring thought because who wants to live the same day time and time again. Our experiences build us. Our experiences challenge us. Living the same day multiple times only provides us comfort. It doesn’t provide growth.
Sure, we like the feel of comfort. But a bit of discomfort is good for you. If you find yourself avoiding new situations because they make you uncomfortable, how will you ever have new experiences? How will you ever live your dreams?
Here’s the question you need to ask yourself: “Do you want your dream enough to brave your discomfort?
If your answer is no, go back to your PJs and binge watch Stranger Things. But, if you answer yes, what thing will you do this week to be uncomfortable?
There will be times in life when your fortitude will be tested but when you’re mentally strong, you fear less because you have an arsenal of skills to draw from that will boost your confidence.
And remember, if you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will. Being mentally strong changes things and people take notice.
Be noticed.
