On Saturday January 28th at about 11:15pm, members of the Niagara Regional Police Services say they attended the area of Bailey Street and Rykert Street in the city of St. Catharines in response to a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, police learned that a 17 year old male victim was confronted by a male known to him and a weapon was used to steal his property. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
With the assistance of a K9 unit and members of the Emergency Task Unit, police were able to track the suspect to a residence on Bailey Street. Several occupants of the residence were temporarily detained and the suspect was arrested without incident.
Charged with one count of Robbery contrary to section 344(1)(b) is a 17 year old male from St. Catharines. The identity of the accused will not be released and he was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence on Bailey Street at approx. 6:20am to locate evidence to further substantiate the charge of robbery. The stolen property was located inside, however 7.6 ounces of a substance believed to be cocaine was also discovered. As a result, the 17 year old male will be facing the additional charge of possession of a schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
