On Sunday, January 15th, 2017, at approximately 12:44 p.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the Port Colborne Fire Service responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision that involved a pedestrian within the parking lot of the Food Basics grocery store located at 124 Clarence Street in Port Colborne.
Police say that investigators have determined a 70 year-old male driver and his 70 year-old female passenger, both from Port Colborne, were travelling within the Food Basics parking lot in a 2000 Ford Windstar van. The male driver lost control of the Ford Windstar and continued through the parking lot striking nine other vehicles. During this collision sequence, a 53 year-old female pedestrian, also from Port Colborne, was walking to her vehicle and was struck by the out-of-control Ford.
The 70 year-old male driver and the 70 year-old female passenger of the Ford were transported to a local hospital as a precaution and later released. The 53 year-old female pedestrian was also taken to a local hospital where she remains in serious condition. No other members of the public were injured.
