Police say on November 27, 2016, at approximately 5:30PM uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District St. Catharines responded to a 911 call to a local variety store in the area of Arthur Street and Northglen Avenue in St. Catharines. Officers responded there for a report of a robbery by two males armed with weapons.
Officers arrived on-scene and found a 77 year old man and a 75 year old woman suffering from minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS).
The officers on-scene had an interaction with an 18 year old male. As a result the man sustained an injury. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate, and has commenced an investigation.
Detectives from the 1 District Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate the robbery. An extensive search by a NRPS K9 team did not locate a second male.
Detectives are asking for any information that may lead to the identity of the male that fled the scene. His description is:
– Male
– Black hoodie sweater
– Mask over face
In compliance with Ontario Regulation 267/10 Section 12 of the Police Services Act, the NRPS is prohibited from releasing further information pending the conclusion of the SIU investigation.
