According to police, on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 an adult female was sexually assaulted by an unknown male in the area of Bell Street and Davis Street in the city of Port Colborne. This incident occurred in the early morning hours while she was walking her child to nearby Dewitt Carter School. This incident prompted an investigation by members of the Niagara Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit.
On September 27, 2016, the same male attended Dewitt Carter School and entered the property unlawfully. Once on the property he approached a young female student and grabbed her by the arm. Staff intervened and called police. Uniform members of the Niagara Regional Police attended and arrested the male. Further investigation by the Sexual Assault Unit revealed that the same male committed both offences.
Charged with the alleged offences of Sexual Assault (adult female) and Assault (person under the age of 16) is 47 year old Port Colborne resident, John Farrell.
John Farrell was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for October 7, 2016 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the city of St Catharines.
