On Saturday September 24, 2016 at 2:40 p.m., police were called to the Fairview Mall located at 285 Geneva Street in The City of St.Catharines for a report of a male shooting an air soft type rifle within the mall. Uniform officers immediately attended the mall and discovered that the male had fled on foot prior to their arrival.
In speaking with witnesses, officers were advised that the male had been firing the weapon in the hallway near the East entrance, by the Dollarama store. The weapon used by the male was described as a black airsoft type rifle.
The male was not pointing the weapon at mall patrons; however, the weapon was discharged at least two times within the mall. The male suspect is described as a white male, approximately 17 to 19 years of age, medium build, wearing a red baseball cap, black shirt and pants, and a bright blue backpack and thick rimmed glasses.
The male was last seen walking through the mall parking lot by Food Basics. A surveillance photo of the male taken within the mall has been attached to this media release. Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the male is asked to contact Detectives with the One District Detective Office at 905-688-4111 Extension 4233.
