Police say on Sunday, August 14th, 2016, at approximately 8:40 p.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the Port Colborne Fire Service responded to reports of a cyclist that had been struck by a vehicle on Elizabeth Street near Killaly Street East in the City of Port Colborne.
Investigators have determined that a 53 year-old male cyclist from Port Colborne, was travelling north on Elizabeth Street in the northbound lane. At the same time, a 28 year-old male, also from Port Colborne, was operating a 2011 Ford Escape north on Elizabeth Street in the northbound lane.
As the Ford approached the cyclist, a collision occurred between the two vehicles, causing the cyclist to be thrown from his bicycle and the 53 year-old cyclist was rushed to an out-of-region trauma center where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford was not injured.This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact detectives at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
