Deloitte has been chosen to perform a forensic audit requested by regional council on the Burgoyne Bridge project. There have been suspicions of criminal activity as the bridge construction has rose significantly in costs from the original $49 million dollars to now $91 million.
Deloitte was hired earlier in the year to conduct a value for money audit on the build that raised questions about the growing cost of the replacement bridge project. Their findings? In a value-for-money audit on the first half of the bridge project in February, their report to council included concerns of missing documents, poor procurement processes and an overall lack of transparency.
Council decided last month to conduct a forensic audit and to ask either the OPP or RCMP to investigate.
