Police say, on Wednesday, June 1st, 2016, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the Thorold Fire Service responded to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle that occurred in the intersection of Merrittville Highway at Port Robinson Road in the City of Thorold, Ontario.

 

Investigators have determined that a 60 year-old male from Port Colborne, Ontario, was operating his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Merrittville Highway towards Port Robinson Road. At the same time, a 62 year-old male from Welland, Ontario, was operating his 2009 Chevrolet Impala. He was stopped at the controlled intersection of Port Robinson Road at Merrittville Highway and attempting to proceed west. The Chevrolet subsequently entered into the intersection where it collided with the Harley Davidson. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and came to final rest on a lawn at the southwest corner of the intersection.The rider was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries.

His injuries have since been upgraded to serious from life-threatening. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured. This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit.Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact detectives at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
