Police say, in the early spring of 2016 members of the Welland Street Crime Unit began an investigation into a residence on Welland Street in Welland, Ontario that was allegedly selling drugs from an upstairs apartment. The quiet neighbourhood was plagued by the constant foot traffic to the apartment through all hours of the night. On Wednesday April 13, 2016 a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant was executed on this residence.
As a result of the execution of the warrant police seized approximately $750.00 in suspected crystal methamphetamines, a small amount of suspected cocaine, and numerous prescription pills. Police also seized various drug paraphernalia from the residence. Charged with 4 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000.00, and Weapons Dangerous are Charles Busby, a 35 year old resident of Welland, Ontario and Kayla Lewis, a 22 year old resident of Welland, Ontario. Busby and Lewis are being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday April 14, 2016 in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Aiden Thibeault, a 18 year old resident of Welland, Ontario is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Thibeault was released on an Officer in Charge Promise to Appear and given a future court date.
