Police say, Sunday November 29, 2015, the Niagara Regional Police Service was alerted to a potential fraud at a local Merchant in St Catharines. A vehicle description was provided and later located by patrol officers in the area. Three males and a female were arrested without incident. Merchandise and U.S. counterfeit currency were located and seized.
Niagara Regional Police Central Fraud Unit assisted in the investigation and were able to link the suspects to incidents in St Catharines, Stoney Creek, Mississauga and Barrie that resulted in additional charges on January 22, 2016.

The Niagara Regional Police are reminding the public to be vigilant against counterfeiting in light of the recent increase of counterfeit US bank notes in the region. If you are not sure about the security features of a American bill then dont accept it, ask for an alternate form of payment.
Remember that counterfeiters rely on cash handlers not checking their money in order to pass their counterfeits. All bank note security features all helpful if people check them. If you know the security features on money you will be able to detect a counterfeit at a glance and protect yourself and your clients form a fraud.
