Police say, on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at about 2:20 am uniform members of the Niagara Regional Police Service on patrol in the downtown core of St. Catharines were alerted to an armed robbery that had just occurred.

 

The victim of the robbery had recently become acquainted with two males, one of whom offered to share his rental accommodation with the victim. The three were inside the victim’s rented room at a building on the corner of Ontario Street and King Street. The victim was in the process of packing up his belongings in preparation for the move to his new apartment. The two men brandished knives and demanded the victim turn over cash.

The victim jumped out the second floor window to get away from the alleged robbers and flagged down a police officer on patrol. The two suspects fled from the building and were pursued by officers. One of the males was taken into custody, and the other managed to elude capture. No one was injured in this incident.

Charged with one count of Robbery contrary to Section 343 of the Criminal Code is 50-year-old Steven BUTEAU of St. Catharines. He will appear in St. Catharines Bail Court on Sunday, November 22, 2015.

Investigators from the 1 District Detective Office have identified the second suspect and are actively pursuing his arrest.
