According to police, on Thursday, November 5th, 2015, at approximately 6:45 p.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the Welland Fire Service responded to reports of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Southworth Street at Dieppe Street in the City of Welland within the Region of Niagara, Ontario.
Investigators have determined that a 76 year-old female pedestrian from Welland, was attempting to cross Southworth Street in an easterly direction after stepping out from the west sidewalk. The pedestrian continued to cross and entered into the northbound lane of Southworth Street.
At the same time, a 51 year-old male, also from Welland, was operating his 2001 Ford F-150 north on Southworth Street near Dieppe Street. The front of the Ford came into collision with the pedestrian, causing her to fall to the pavement.
The 76 year-old pedestrian was rushed to the Niagara Health System – Welland Site where a short time later, she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Ford was not physically injured.
This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service – Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
