Police say in September of 2012, Niagara Regional Police Constable Scott Heron was charged with several criminal offences in relation to his alleged role in a cheese smuggling operation in the Niagara area. He was released from custody and was ordered to abide by several conditions of a Recognizance of Bail.
In September of 2015 Heron was convicted of three Customs Act Charges and one count of Criminal Breach of Trust. He remained out of custody on the original release conditions from the 2012 arrest pending sentencing on November 27th, 2015.
After a brief investigation during the first week of October 2015, evidence was uncovered that suggests Heron was in breach of the Recognizance of Bail issued in 2012.
Heron was arrested on that charge on the morning of October 8th. He was placed in custody and will appear in a St. Catharines Bail Court on the afternoon of October 8th.
