According to police, at approximately 6:55 PM on Sunday, October 4th, 2015, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara On The Lake Fire Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service were dispatched for a single motor vehicle that had left the roadway on Townline Road near Carlton Street, in the Town of Niagara On The Lake, in the Region of Niagara.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 22-year-old male resident of Grimsby was driving his 1997 BMW motor vehicle west bound on Townline Road and he failed to negotiate the sharp bend in the road. This motor vehicle went through the guardrail and came to rest in a vineyard.

There were two occupants in this vehicle. The driver and his 29 year-old male passenger from Lincoln. Both males suffered life threatening injures. The driver had to be extricated by fire services. Both males were transferred to the Niagara Heath Systems St. Catharines Site by ambulance before the driver was air lifted and the passenger transferred by ground ambulance to the Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site in critical condition.

***Update #1***

On Monday, October 5th, 2015 Police Investigators received information that the 22-year-old driver of the 1997 BMW had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site. The name of this driver is not being released by police at this time. The passenger of this motor vehicle is now listed in stable condition and remains at the Hamilton General Hospital.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office, Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
