According to police, on September 9th, 2015 two girls (14 and 17 years old) were waiting at a bus stop after school in the area of Linwell Road and Lakeport Road in St. Catharines. They became aware that a man (who also appeared to be waiting for the bus) was recording them with his cell phone. When the male noticed the girls were aware of his actions he departed on foot.
On September 14, 2015 the same two girls were walking in the area of Linwell Road and Lakeport Road in St. Catharines. As the girls walked they noticed same man following them. The man was videotaping them with a cell phone. The girls became fearful and ducked down a side street to call 911. Uniform officers attended the area but were not able to locate the male.
On September 17, 2015 three girls (15, 17, and 17 years old) were in the area of Linwell Road and Lakeport Road waiting for a bus. They saw a man, who appeared to be videotaping them. The man stood in close proximity to the girls, causing them to be fearful.
Two Niagara Regional Police Service School Resources Officers were in the area. The officers had been in the area due to the September 9th and 14th suspicious behavior. The officers observed the male recording the girls and intervened seizing the cell phone.
Preston Tyler Dyck (23 years old) was arrested and charged with the alleged offence of:
Four counts of Criminal Harassment contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
He was held overnight for a bail hearing on September 18, 2015.
The investigation remains ongoing by the St. Catharines School Resource Officers with assistance being provided by the NRPS Internet Child Exploitation Unit and the TECH Crime Unit.
