Police say, shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 9th 2015, a 911 call was placed from an apartment building in the north end of the City of St.Catharines. The caller advised that a male resident of the building had sustained a stab wound as a result of an altercation that took place within the building. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a number of stab wounds. The male victim was initially transported to the Niagara Health System St.Catharines Site and was then transferred by air ambulance to the Hamilton General Hospital for further treatment and is presently listed in stable condition.
As a result of an initial investigation at the scene by uniform members assigned to One District St.Catharines, with the assistance of the One District Detective Office, a male resident of the building was identified as a suspect and taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Charged with One Count of Aggravated Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada is 22 year old Marcel Martel of St.Catharines.
Martel is scheduled to appear for a Bail Hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch courthouse located at 59 Church Street, St.Catharines on Thursday September 10th 2015.
