According to police, at approximately 4:30 PM On Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Regional Police and West Lincoln Fire Services were dispatched for a motor vehicle collision on Regional Road 20, near Concession Road 4 in the Township of West Lincoln, in the Region of Niagara.
Initial investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male resident of West Lincoln was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck northbound on Regional Road 20 south of Concession Road 4 when he crossed the center yellow line and collided head on with a southbound 2000 Mack semi-tractor and trailer. The driver of the Dodge motor vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters but before he could be transported to hospital he succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 52-year-old Port Colborne male driver of the Mack truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Niagara Health System Welland Site as a precaution and he was later released. There were no other occupants in these motor vehicles.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time out of consideration for the family.
This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office, Ministry of Transportation, Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
