According to police, on Friday July 17, 2015, police were contacted regarding an alleged sexual assault complaint.
During the course of the investigation, police learned that the female complainant, and her friend, accepted an invitation to visit a male at his residence in Niagara on the Lake during the early morning hours of July 16, 2015. The females travelled from Welland in order to meet the male. He was not previously known to either female.
The complainant consumed a quantity of alcohol and fell asleep. At one point she woke, to find the male engaged in a sexual act with her. As a result of further police investigation, a suspect in this matter was identified.
On Friday July 17, 2015, William Duchart, 27 years old, of Niagara on the Lake was arrested. He is charged with one count of Sexual Assault.
Mr. Duchart is being held in custody, pending a bail hearing scheduled for July 18, 2015, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, 59 Church Street, St. Catharines
