Cancer is something that all of us have dealt with directly or indirectly. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, an estimated 196,900 new cases of cancer and 78,000 deaths from cancer will occur in Canada in 2015. Prostate, lung, breast, and colorectal cancer account for the top 4 newly diagnosed cancers. In 2015, an estimated 28,500 people will die of cancer in Ontario, and 76,000 new cases will be diagnosed. Bottom Line: the need for care is huge.
The Walker Family Cancer Centre in St. Catharines plays a crucial role in cancer care for the niagara region and Hernder Picasso’s Foundation held its 5th annual charitable golf tournament presented by Performance Mercedes-Benz on June 1st at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in support of the centre, raising over $61,000 thanks to event sponsors and participating golfers!
Members of the organizing committee presented the proceeds to OneFoundation for Niagara Health System and cancer centre representatives on July 14th while visiting the Radiation Therapy Waiting Area, named in honour of Hernder Picasso’s Foundation for their $250,000 pledge commitment to cancer care in Niagara.
With expertise in the wine and beauty industries, the group has been creatively fundraising through initiatives ranging from makeover soirees and golf tournaments to special edition wines that help raise awareness and funds for a cause that is near and dear to their hearts.
